Chris Schmidt, CEO, WhizCut

Make your thread milling work like magic

"Stop thread milling with unnecessary long thread mills. That is the most common mistake people do when choosing tools ", says Chris Schmidt MD of WhizCut when explaining how you can increase tool life with up to 26 %. He also reveals how you can thread mill full profile really small.

How can shorter be better, we are talking about thread milling right?
"Yes, it is a simple mistake many do when choosing which length of thread mill to use. With WhizCuts thread mills the size of the chamfer of the hole will be taken into consideration. Instead of choosing a thread mill that goes the full thread depth choose a shorter one  - the relief created by the chamfer reduces the length needed. WhizThrill have a 15° exit angle out to the shank which clears the chamfer.”

Ok. Shorter is good but how good?
“A shorter thread mill generates a better quality thread and also the tool life is increased drastically. WhizCut also has a patent pending design of the minor shank that extends tool life versus regular micro thread mills with up to 26%.”

Any more hacks on thread milling?
"Of course. Do you know that you can thread mill full profile really small? Previously manufacturers of small threads had to profile with v-profile tools. Now they can thread mill full profile down to as small as M1. Full profile threading gives a higher quality thread and a correct thread profile in one pass.”

Sounds good. Any more benefits?
“The benefit of using a full profile single tooth versus a multiple tooth thread milll is the reduced cutting force - giving better quality threads and longer tool life.”
