Axial relief vs. component possibilities

  • Style P: 0° provides the strongest tool, ideal for sub spindle use. Style PS offers extra stability.
  • Style Y: 6° gives a strong tool but may leave a small chamfer without a sub spindle.
  • Style Z: 15° is a versatile parting-off insert, recommended for parting-off without a sub spindle or when parting-off parts with a hole.
  • Style S & U: 20-30° is a less strong tool ideal for small parts needing a fine surface finish.

Rake angle vs. material

  • 0° for short-chipping materials
  • 12° for long-chipping materials
  • 20° for sticky and long-chipping materials

Machining against the sub spindle

Recommended inserts when parting off against the sub spindle are YR,  ZR and SR. For maximum stability of the part use the special toolholder WSK15EL 12Q6-2P.
